Wow, that looks terrible. Most of the websites you find with "HDR" photos on them look like this - totally overprocessed. The point of HDR is to show details that can't normally be captured by a cemera - like extra details in clouds. Not like this.

" My end result wasn't at all similar to the intended effect, maybe because I wasn't sure about the last step. If you could clarify this that would be awesome. I get horrible results from this. You neglect to mention the size of your original image which effects the first step in the tutorial. I think you could also clear up some of this by describing the intended outcome of each step. The same adjustments won't apply to all images. Knowing the intended effect of each step would help the user adjust accordingly.

Although I can see the appeal of such an effect, HDR is definitely a misnomer in this case obviously but in all other cases where HDR is used as a synonym to this sort of painterly effect. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and it means higher range of luminances that can be captured/stored/manipulated/displaye The painterly effect that is now synonym to HDR is merely the result of certain tonemapping operators using quite extreme values for the input parameters. So by definition none of these images can be HDR as they are tonemapped to a lower dynamic range. I'm sure you are aware of all that but I feel that it's a bit of a shame that all that most people know about HDR techniques is simply a certain artistic effect and they completely miss the point of the technology (or even the research area), its potentials and the work that is currently done. Although I wouldn't expect everyone to be familiar with every new technology developed in labs around the world it would certainly be a shame if HDR displays or cameras appear on the market and people dismiss the technology thinking that it'll only lead to this sort of (potentially overused by that time) effect.

Hello One can make no Fake HDR. A single picture does not have the necessary contrast envelop. Your Fake HDR action is nothing else as an effect which is laid about a picture. One can also use less and easier steps which achieve a better result. HDR is an art for itself, and Fakes or effects which should allow to look supposedly the picture so is a pure nonsense and time waste. One must have 3 different exposures. There is not another way. Cheers for this mate. Its great! I've taken a few HDR exposure bracketed shots before, but sometimes its just not practical to carry around a tripod on my travels. This is the perfect alternative. Also, the Photoshop action is a superb inclusion.

Vojtech: Zhruba by se dalo rict, ze HDR imaging je zpusob, jak dosahnout daleko vetsiho dynamamickyho rozsahu, nez umoznuje bezna fototechnika. Vetsinou se to dela tak, ze se scena vyfotografuje na nekolikrat s ruznyma expozicema (tak aby byly prokresleny svetla i stiny), a tahle sada fotek se pak spoji do jedne HDR fotky. Lochnes: muzes to zkusit jeste trochu jinak : prva zduplikuj base vrstvu a jeji kopii presun ji uplne nahoru, pak ji zneviditelni, aby nezavazela. Vyber bily oblasti pomoci selece > color range . Kopii base vrstvy zpatky zviditelni a klikni na add layer mask (ikonka cervene zakrouzkovana ve 3. kroku). No a nakonec se maska poladi pomoci gausian blur. A nebo si muzes stahnout photoshopi akci a nechat celou praci na Photoshopu ;).
